Liz Mathison
Mixed Media & Watercolour Artist

Liz migrated from Scotland to Australia in 2008 with her husband and young family and has since made the local community her home. After a rewarding four-decade career in nursing, she retired and rediscovered a passion for painting that had lain dormant since high school.
Although returning to art after so many years felt daunting, a series of classes with a local artist gave Liz the confidence to begin her creative journey. Still an emerging artist, she has been painting for only a few years but now spends much of her time in her studio, continually developing her skills and exploring new techniques.
Liz’s artistic journey began with watercolour, drawn to the medium’s vibrancy, luminosity and expressive possibilities. More recently, she has expanded her practice to include acrylics, gouache and mixed media, enjoying the freedom each medium offers. Her inspiration comes from a diverse range of subjects, from weathered rusty trucks and native Australian flora to the beauty and character of wildlife.
Liz is a member of the Aldinga Bay Art Club and a permanent exhibitor with the Willunga Arts Collective and the Onkaparinga Council Gallery in Port Noarlunga. She has exhibited for several years in the Rotary Art Show in Victor Harbor and is delighted to be exhibiting in the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival for the first time in 2026.
