Alie Beck

Sculptures in Clay

Alie Beck has centered her life with family and art.  She studied art and sculpture at the Southend Art school in the UK on a scholarship. She worked with Charles Randall Page modelling figures for the diorama’s he built.  She also modelled toys which were produced in rubber, and created window display pieces for various stores in the UK.

Alie immigrated to Australia in 1967 with her husband and family.  She worked for Vogue Overseas Fashions, and designed sets and props for the Opus Theatre group at Noarlunga Theatre (now the Hopgood Theatre).

When Alie was able to concentrate on her own art, she combined a love of birds and animals with the feel of clay in her hands. She developed a collection of Australian birds and animals for the bi-centennial exhibition in 1988.

Alie’s sculptures are lovingly modelled, fired, airbrushed, and wired onto driftwood then sealed.  Her personal gallery is at Pebble House, Sellicks.
