Helen Kunert
'Desert Eaters' Acrylic painting by Helen Kunert
Helen’s artistic journey began at a young age with watercolour, a medium that taught her patience, observation, and a love of subtlety.
Along the way, Helen has been fortunate to learn from many talented teachers whose guidance helped shape both techniques and confidence as an artist.
Over time, she expanded into oils and acrylics, embracing their richness and versatility. At the moment, Helen is enjoying the challenge of pastels; the discipline needed to refrain from overworking is never-ending. Like most artistic mediums, pastels benefit from that freshness that comes with knowing when to stop work.
Helen has been a member of various art organisations over the years and is currently part of the Pastel Artists of South Australia. Helen also exhibits and sells her work through the Willunga Arts Collective in the High Street of Willunga.
Nature is her enduring inspiration. Rather than painting strict reality, Helen says she is drawn to abstraction and mixed media, leaving space within the work — space for the viewer to pause, reflect, and discover their own meaning. For her, art is a dialogue: a quiet conversation between the work and the person standing before it.
